沈志勤揭露，官员要求公民权申请者写马来作文以测试其水平。
人民公正党峇央峇鲁国会议员沈志勤建议政府在考核公民权申请者的马来文时有统一的标准，并透露曾有申请者向他反映需要写一篇马来作文来测试其马来文水平。

“我希望（测试马来文）这必须统一标准，而不是取决于官员，我们担心的是….曾有人到我的服务中心反映，在测试马来文时，他被要求写一篇作文，我觉得这标准有点高，但他的交谈没有问题。”
沈志勤今天在国会下议院参与公民权修宪法案辩论时，认同身为马来西亚公民必须掌握作为国文的马来文，这是公民的责任。
他说，毕竟即使在其他国家，公民也必须学习当地的语文。
