旧奈良监狱的正门拱形入口和圆顶式屋顶甚具特色。
日本一座于1908年落成的百年古迹“旧奈良监狱”将翻新为豪华旅馆，敲定2026年春天开幕。这是日本国内监狱被改造成高级旅馆的首例。
位于奈良市的“旧奈良监狱”于1908年建成，是明治政府规划的五大监狱之一，外墙由红砖打造而成，因建筑设计及历史价值受到高度评价，2017年2月被指定为日本国家重要文化财。同年3月因结构老旧等原因关闭前，收容约700人。
日本星野集团早年已取得政府的特许权经营“旧奈良监狱”，而“旧奈良监狱”的所有权仍属于日本政府。
日本媒体报道，星野集团规划48间客房，计划将数间单人牢房改建为单间客房，也正在研拟于园区内设置说明“旧奈良监狱”历史博物馆。
这间旅馆原定于2021年开张，后来因抗震工程、经营协议事项等因素，导致开业时间延期。
