斯里兰卡央行预计国家经济崩溃将导致今年经济至少萎缩8%，但预期通货膨胀失控的情况会有所缓解。
法新社报道，斯里兰卡4月拖欠了510亿美元（2279亿9800万令吉）的外债，并在经历数个月的食品、燃料和药品短缺后，向国际货币基金组织救助。

斯里兰卡央行已经预测，今年经济可能萎缩7.5%；2020年冠病疫情爆发时，该国经济萎缩了3.6%，写下新纪录。
不过，央行行长维拉辛哈坦言：“现在我们认为经济萎缩将会超过8%。”
他说，通膨率将在9月达到“约65%”的峰值，随后通膨率会因需求下降和供应改善而逐步放缓。
