中国国家统计局周四发文表示，中国人口2020年继续保持增长，具体数据将在第7次全国人口普查公报中发布，反驳外国传媒的报导。
报导称，中国最新的第7轮全国人口普查已在去年12月完成，原定4月开始陆续公布普查主要数据，但目前尚未对外公布。根据这一最新人口普查，中国总人口不到14亿。

人口下降对于中国的经济发展、消费力、养老问题等都将产生重大影响。
消息人士表示，人口数据非常敏感，需要各政府部门对数据及其影响达成一致才会公布。
英国《金融时报》此前引述知情人士称，中国最新人口普查结果将显示，50年来人口首次下降。
