VIEW ON OPPOSITION FIGHTING FOR PM’S POST IS WITH BASIS

ARAU, Feb 24 (Bernama) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s view that the opposition leaders would fight for the position of Prime Minister is made with strong basis, said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim.

He said this being that DAP had more seats in parliament than any other parties, although Pakatan Harapan was said to be led by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

“Do not be influenced that the Prime Minister’s post will easily belong to PPBM chairman, who is former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for him to return as a premier again.

“ UMNO, as the core party of Barisan Nasional (BN), practises power-sharing with component parties in the coalition without problems and is well received by the people, ” he said.

Shahidan, who is also Perlis UMNO Liaison Committee chairman and the State BN chairman, was met by reporters after a gathering with BN supporters at the Kampung Guar Gajah Polling District (PDM) here last night.

Shahidan, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, expressed confidence with the current show of support for BN among urban voters, they would continue to support the coalition in the coming general election.

He said voters in the urban areas were seen to be shifting their support to BN following the various efforts made by the government to ease the burden and cost of living of the people, such as abolition of tolls .

On Perlis, Shahidan said all the state BN machinery had done their job well and he was grateful that the BN candidates for the coming general election was not an issue for party supporters.

According to him, the opposition might have great candidates but they didn’t have the “people’s strength”, in contrast to BN’s candidates who always went down to the field to meet the people.
