瑞典外长林德周三在美国首都华盛顿表示，瑞典已获得美国承诺，若瑞典申请加入北约（NATO），期间瑞典将获安全保证。
瑞典及芬兰未在冷战期间加入北约，但随着俄罗斯在2014年并吞克里米亚，以及最近入侵乌克兰，致使两国开始重新思考安全政策，加入北约可能性提高。不过，瑞典和芬兰也忧心，在申请加入北约期间，两国将容易受到攻击。加入北约需要所有成员国同意，可能需要长达1年的时间。
林德在会见美国国务卿布林肯后称：“当然，我不会详述任何细节，但我觉得非常确定，我们现在已有美国的保证。”
