根据超夯儿童动画节目《Dora the Explorer》改编，《Dora and the Lost City of Gold》以真人演员打造出青少年版寻宝电影，用各种冒险关卡，让大小朋友重新认识Dora。
过去曾在《Transformers：The Last Knight 》、《Instant Family》等片表现抢眼的Isabela Moner，成为电影版本的Dora，而且有别于原本电视动画学龄前小朋友的诉求，改为青少年身份出现在大银幕上进行寻宝探险。以影集《Desperate Housewife》走红的Eva Longoria，及《Ant-Man and the Wasp》抢戏的Michael Pena，扮演Dora的父母亲。Dora片中穿越亚马逊丛林，试图从一群狡猾奸诈、心狠手辣的宝藏猎人手中救出父母，并且必须面对她至今最可怕的挑战——高中生活！
Danny Trejo与康城影帝Benicio Del Toro也加入坚强的演员阵容，但观众绝对不会认出他们来——直到他们开口说话。Dora最好的朋友Boots（Danny Trejo 配音）是一只猴子，他的死对头Swiper（Benicio Del Toro配音）则是一只狐狸。导演James Bobin决定以真实的方式塑造这两个角色，请来视觉特效总监Andy Brown打造出这两只动物的真实版本。
