然而，却没有几个人知道“Gostan”字眼的由来。一名脸书用户似乎早已对“Gostan”这个字眼有所理解，也掌握其背后的故事。

根据该网民的解释，“其实Gostan源自 Go Stern或Go Astern。在航海界，船的行径方向不是‘前进’和‘后退’的概念，而是根据船的结构判断的。Head是船首，Stern是船尾。所以有Go Ahead和Go Astern的航海术语。”
网民提及，向船尾方向航行就是Go astern，看起来就是倒退，后来就被普遍引用作为后退的用词。过程中可能就会被误听或误读，变成‘Gostan’。
“就好像车子的避震器是‘Absorber’，但是一般民间术语变成了‘Soba’。”
